Rules

The following rules establish the standards and practices under which ALL World Series of Birding participants must comply. The rules are in fundamental accord with Big Day Count Rules established by the American Birding Association (ABA). Changes, where they occur, have been made to meet the needs imposed by team competition. Note that some categories of competition may have additional rules that govern participation.

All participants must be familiar with and comply with all rules, terms, and conditions (including those outlined in Exhibits A, B, C, and D below) in order to compete in the World Series of Birding. Failure in this regard may result in the disqualification of the team.

Great Swamp NWR: The staff at Great Swamp NWR continues to provide outstanding co-operation in allowing access to Wilderness
Areas to WSB teams while maintaining security to protected areas.  Veterans, please note there are a few changes in terms of the
application process and access points for permits for 2018.  Details are outlined in the "Rules and Regulations" document
(link below).  Here are the highlights:
1.  Contact person for Special Use Permits is Lia McLaughlin (Jerfelis Pimental is no longer on staff).
2.  Please send all permit applications by fax or email
3.  The refuge has installed codes/combination locks on various locked parking areas on the refuge.  Permit holders will be issued
temporary codes to gain access to the usual areas for WSB.  IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT EACH PARTICIPANT, SCOUT OR TEAM
BE DILIGENT IN CLOSING AND LOCKING GATES BEHIND YOU, EVEN IF YOU KNOW ANOTHER PERSON OR TEAM IS JUST
      A FEW MINUTES BEHIND YOU.
